Creative Climate Futures – a project for art, climate, and communities across Glasgow

Glasgow's Climate Week blog posts

Creative Climate Futures is a project which aims to support local climate action in Glasgow. The project is led by is led by Verture, working with Creative Carbon Scotland, Community Land Scotland, Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector, the Scottish Communities Climate Action Network and Glasgow City Council. Funding for the project has been awarded through Glasgow City Council’s Communities and Place Fund.

Creative Climate Futures is now entering its third year working in Easterhouse and the Gorbals, using embedded artists to work with communities in new and exciting ways to talk about climate change. The project has climate justice at its centre – recognising that our collective response to climate change must also tackle inequality and its underlying causes. You can read more about the week-to-week work taking place on the Substack project journal.

We know that Glasgow is already feeling the impacts of climate change. This includes milder, wetter, winters, more summer heatwaves, and more frequent, heavier downpours. The project aims to build resilience to these impacts and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are contributing to climate change.

Change will need to be collaborative, with communities having an equal seat at the table and given real power to drive forward the changes they know are needed. Through this project, Verture are supporting communities across Glasgow to collaborate with decision-makers, technical experts and artists to understand what climate change means for their neighbourhoods, imagine climate ready futures, and speed up local action to make these a reality.

The Creative Climate Futures team will be at the Glasgow Climate Week Climate Conversations event on the 12th May, so do come and speak to us then, or drop us a line if you’d like to know more. We’re also active on social media, so do please give us a follow.
