Celebrating Glasgow’s Climate Week
Glasgow's Climate Week blog posts
As Glasgow’s Climate Week draws to a close, we want to take this opportunity to celebrate a week that showcased action, highlighted where we can all get involved and demonstrated the importance of bringing people together on the journey to Net Zero.
On Monday 12th May, we held our Climate Conversations event. This event gave the opportunity for everyone to come along and talk about climate action with us. Teams focused on sustainability projects including Circular Economy, Active Travel, Flood Risk Management, the Centre for Civic Innovation and more were available for conversations. We were also joined by Verture and Glasgow Climate Action Hub. It was great to talk about what Climate action means to you and to understand what helps to drive action and what the barriers are.
Also on Monday 12th, Congress of Business Futures – Learning for Sustainability event took place. The event was an interactive careers event aimed at inspiring young people to explore green and sustainable career, featuring inspiring speakers, hands-on workshops, and engaging panel discussions with industry leaders.
On Tuesday the 13th the Chamber of Commerce hosted the Congress of Business 2025. Business leaders from across the city came together to share their net zero journeys and challenges they’re facing. Speakers from near and far provided inspirational content on how to move forwards through a business lens. The themes discussed were that innovation and collaboration in a world where AI development and the Climate crisis were critical opportunities for businesses.
Once again Glasgow hosted the All-Energy conference, the UK’s largest low-carbon energy and renewables event. Welcoming people from across the world, the two-day event focused on renewable energy and the future of energy in the UK.
To round off the week, we ran workshops in two Primary schools in the city understand the views of young people voice. The sessions were an opportunity for young people to share the fantastic work in their own schools and communities and also provided opportunity to think about our future city. Not only did we discuss what Glasgow will look like in future in terms of climate action, we also considered what would help us get to this future and what would make it difficult. Young people play a pivotal role in climate action, and supporting their innovation is key to reaching our goals.
Across the city various organisations hosted events including networking events, climate anxiety workshops, bike repair events, opportunities to meet bees, circular design discussions and much more. Showcasing the variety of action across the city and the enthusiasm of everyone involved, this calendar events presented something for everyone! We also uploaded blog articles every day of Glasgow’s Climate Week, covering a variety of subjects, including the importance of young people and community action in the journey to Net Zero.
Glasgow’s Climate Week may be over, but climate action continues every day. In the coming months there are some exciting things to look out for:
- The Launch of Glasgow’s Community Renewable Energy Framework (CREF): our package of support for local groups to develop community-led renewable energy projects. Launch coming June 2025.
- In Tuesday’s blog from Dr Florence Halstead, the importance of a community-led response to climate change was outlined. The CommuniMap app will be launching early June 2025 and give the opportunity for everyone to get involved.
- Glasgow’s Climate Week gives us the opportunity to celebrate success across our city. But climate action is needed across the country. Scotland’s Climate Week is a chance to connect across the Scotland and celebrate with others. Scotland’s Climate Week 2025 is coming in September.
Look out for Glasgow’s Climate Week 2026!
